The Keene Act & You 1977 I haven't been out looking for material on the upcoming (March 6) Watchmen film, so while this was new to me it may not be so for you. A post at Ain't It Cool News was what tipped me to this. I'm not sure how much this is just viral marketing or if it's something that will appear in the body of the film, or is destined to just be a DVD extra. I know I'll be going to see the film opening weekend and have been content to let most of the info wait there for me.
Reed Exhibitions: March of Con-Quest? (Yeah. Ouch.) Yesterday I read over on Tony's blog about how the people behind the increasingly successful New York Comic Con have decided that starting in 2010 they would be launching a convention in Chicago the extended weekend of April 16-18. Overnight, more details came in from Reed Exhibitions, the organization which finally managed to make a successful go of what would have seemed to be an easy and obvious New York City comics convention (considering that both Marvel and DC have their main offices there), including that the New York Comic Con will be moving from its early year position (last year it had been in April, but this year it had to be moved back to February 6-8, this upcoming weekend, due to an inability to book the convention space in April) to roughly permanent dates in the fall starting October of 2010. The plan appears to be to try to set themselves up as the big alpha and omega comics convention events for the se

Flame On! The Burger King's bringing back something in time for Valentine's Day: a broiled meat-scented cologne called Flame . Apparently they offered it for a brief time back in December, when it reportedly sold out within a three-day span. At $4 it's likely something that will sell out again even if simply as a gag (no pun intended) gift. Here's the article: Burger King cologne makes comeback By Greg Turner Monday, February 2, 2009 Burger King is rekindling its Flame. The fast-food chain announced today that its broiled-meat scented body spray is “back by popular demand,” just in time for Valentine’s Day. BK grabbed headlines in mid-December when it first introduced the $4 men’s fragrance. The company billed the body spray as “the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat.” Although a sales figure wasn’t yet available, Burger King claims the cologne sold out “like wildfire” three days after its debut, becoming a hot stocking stuffer. “People simple couldn’
Not Jazzed Not trying to make an argument of it, I'm just giving my perspective. A piece in Newsweek lauds the 50th anniversary of Mile Davis' album Kind of Blue, Technically, the tracks for the album were recorded on March 2 and April 22 of 1959, and the album not released until August 17th, but I didn't want to just set this for that date, especially as I've posted so little to this blog in the past several months. I'll turn 48 this year, and I've made a habit for much of my adult life to revisit various bits of music that are highly lauded but have thus far simply failed to click for me, checking to see if something or other falls into place and I "get" it. Here's So What ...and here's All Blues , as these are two of the items noted as "staples in the jazz repertoire" in the article. So far, the majority of jazz, including the items show above still don't work for me. I always try to get into a positive, or at least open, stat
