Tonight, Tonight, Tonight...

The likely final 3.5 innings of Game Five of the World Series will be played tonight, following Monday night's game being stopped in the middle of the 6th inning due to heavy, cold rain and high winds Monday night.

One of the people on whose behalf I was rooting for the Phillies, unfortunately, will not be around to see it. My assistant's mother passed away Monday afternoon.

I'd come in Monday hopeful that I'd find evidence of raised spirits following not only the Phillies having won games three and four Saturday and Sunday, but especially follwing their spectacular win Sunday night. It was as if a switch went on in the players' heads and they remembered that there was something advantageous they could do with one or more of their players on base. Prior to this, from at least the National League finals games forward, the team seemed unable to just go ahead and hit a home run, especially when they had men on base. Instead, there mostly seemed to be a great deal of effort going in to the making of a series of long, long Outs, though they would occasionally steal Home.

Sadly, though, come Monday morning I received a call from Tim that it was looking grim for his mother. By Tuesday morning I learned that she'd passed Monday afternoon.

I really need to contact Bob W. again soon to see how his mom's doing.

Meanwhile, I wonder if the Desperate Duo, McCain-Palin, will continue to push yet another lie by claiming that Obama's half hour presentation running tonight will be postponing the resumption of the World Series game. It isn't. All it's doing is replacing the pre-game blather.

Based on what we've seen so far, though, including the continued invocations of Joe the Plumber even after it became clear to anyone interested in finding out, that even Joe has seen that he would be taxed less under Obama's tax plan, I expect the McCain camp (and Right-wing talk radio, etc.) to continue invoking a lie. He's learned so much since he started working with Bush and especially since he decided to sell off the remainder of his soul in exchange for the GOP nomination. I sometimes despair of McCain's being able to find the integrity of the man he once was should he (as I am fervently hoping will be the case) be simply returning to the Senate, all thoughts of presidential races behind him.
