Convention Time! Today, the ever-affable Eric G. and I will be headed into Philly for this year's Wizard World event , a comics, gaming and entertainment convention we've managed to hit together every year back through 2004 , making this the sixth for us to hit together. As I've often noted in various places over the years, these events require good traveling companions to really enjoy them, and Eric's a fine choice. Sometime later this weekend I'll aim to add a proper post (or two or three) about it - I've let that part slide most years, but I don't want to this time. Reed Exhibitions: March of Con-Quest? (Yeah. Ouch.) Yesterday I read over on Tony's blog about how the people behind the increasingly successful New York Comic Con have decided that starting in 2010 they would be launching a convention in Chicago the extended weekend of April 16-18. Overnight, more details came in from Reed Exhibitions, the organization which finally managed to make a successful go of what would have seemed to be an easy and obvious New York City comics convention (considering that both Marvel and DC have their main offices there), including that the New York Comic Con will be moving from its early year position (last year it had been in April, but this year it had to be moved back to February 6-8, this upcoming weekend, due to an inability to book the convention space in April) to roughly permanent dates in the fall starting October of 2010. WWE: A Guide In Progress That's Wizard World East , the annual comics convention held in Philadephia. This year it'll be June 15-17. While guests are still being added to the list and the programming is yet to be set, I thought it a good exercise to at least try to think through the event a little. To try to spare myself the minor regrets of "I should've done" this or that. If it ends up helping anyone else, all the better. (Please note that this is a working draft, posted now with the idea that people who come by it, especially if they turn out to be fans of one or more of the people set to attend the convention, will point out potentially helpful information for the possible benefit of all. Post-convention post The congenial Eric G. (a co-worker of a few years) and I took a train into Philly and attended Wizard World East , following plans mentioned in the previous post. As for why I almost titled this entry "Plans are for chumps", I'll note that by the time we stepped onto the convention floor, just before noon - the event had opened at 10 - they'd already sold through at least today's allotment of pre-release Ultimates boosters. As this bade ill for the convention exclusives angle, we proceeded to walk the floor, scarfing up swag and evaluating what was there. Before moving on I want to mention that the situation with the Galactus exclusive was irritating. On the one hand, there seemed to be plenty of them, and people were walking around with them all over the place.
