A little more chatter about wings and beaks I'll have a more comprehensive post on Origin sometime later today, but before that I want to take a moment to do a quick look at the Carter Hall LE Hypertime brought us and the one Origin will be bringing. Highlander's mention about me skipping it left me feeling almost guilty about the omission, so I decided to give it a few moments. I know he'll be making his own, likely far more detailed, comments, and I'll point you to them. (And here they are .) Here's an at-a-glance Carter Hall comparison: I have the Carter Hall LE from Hypertime (the one on the left), and as far as what was offered for a Hawkman back then, it's definitely the best. We get a couple leading clicks of 9 AV and 3 Damage, along with Leadership and Charge with a 10 Speed. The first four clicks are functional, though the poor guy is not only easy to hit he starts to fold easily, with nary a bit of color on any of his Defense slots. This isn't...

Coma Prep Not the best night's sleep, so I've felt 30 seconds away from going horizontal and switching off all morning. Knowing I could do it if I wished helped stave it off while I worked on the rest of the meal. I made a pot of garlic cheddar mashed potatoes, which are now put together and being gently brought back up to a good temperature. Then I finished putting the stuffing together (the easiest part, since Ari had finely diced the celery and onions last night, and Nick had sauteed them) as the simple task of combining it with the seasoned bread cubes and enough broth to get the right consistency. That, too, is gently warming. Gravy's set. The turkey was seasoned, carefully enclosed in foil and set to slow roast late last night... so I guess we're just about ready to go. A couple vegetables to add - green beans at least -- and the whole-berry cranberry sauce that's been chilling in the refrigerator since six this morning needs to be taken out and mixed into an ...

No, really. She has a great personality... Earlier this week Wizkids showed us the Carter Hall LE version of Hawkman, I'm not going to dwell on that here unless and until such time as I might happen to get one, aside from noting that the only thing that surprised me a little is that it's a JLA TA piece. Today, though -- presumably as an update will tell us (I'll modify the post and link to it, presumably with some designer's notes, once I see it) is a Valentine's Day surprise -- we have the REV of Halo . Not the best sculpt I've seen, but I'm going to presume she'll look better in person; that's a given in Heroclix. Halo is one of those characters who anyone outside of comics and I'd guess a great, great many who are into comics have never heard of. A character who's been around for more than a couple decades, but was off in a niche, part of the first incarnation of a team many fans barely noticed - the Outsiders - Halo is one of those chara...
For the Day Ice & snow, snow & ice --- and a turkey in the oven. Sleet, freezing rain and then some more snow are underway and expected through the stretch of the day. The automated message from the school rang here around 5:30 this morning, so the kids are off, too. I stayed around at work Tuesday to knock out some additional projects and get past the rush hour hump, so matters are clear enough there for the short term. Of course, it's another minor holiday , too (You'll have to double-click on the image and watch it over on You Tube itself because someone's a dick.) Beyond that, though, what's more to say? I hope you all get to enjoy the day in whatever your way may be.
Or... ...will I get something closer to the Wednesday I'd been looking for? The forecast for my area has shifted again. So, I'm keeping a happy thought. Philadelphia is still projected to shift to all rain, but at the moment we appear to be sufficiently West and North of that to stay cold and solid. It's lightly snowing now.
Forecast Fizzle It appears that while we'll likely go to bed around these parts Tuesday night with a blanket of white, by sometime Wednesday morning we're now tole we'll be into rain. Ah, well. That's the usual winter's tale in this corner of Pennsylvania. I can hope the cold air that's supposed to momentarily reassert itself over us Tuesday will hold out, but it's not to be counted on in the least. It was a fun concept while it lasted, though. We're still planning on turkey dinner for Wednesday, though. I suppose I'll just be eating it a little later in the day than planned. Way too much sugar today's left me both lagged out and unsettled. Sleepy meat over buzzing bones. I napped after dinner and that helped calm the buzzing down, but now I'm going to have some difficulty slipping back asleep as my work schedule demands. It's a pay week, though, so that helps. It also reminds me that I have some more checks to write and get out into t...
Fan Films I'm likely to be pinned down -- hopefully not by gunfire or something similarly withering and deadly -- much of Monday, so I wanted to put something up potentially entertaining while I'm occupied. There are some comics fans out there who've put together some fun, even occasionally impressive, bits of comics-based film. Here are a few of the ones I've come across. I'll start with one I caught playing on various screens at a comics convention two or three years ago: Grayson Along similar lines is World's Finest Then there's Batman: Dead End And with a much, much lighter touch, we have "I'm Power Girl, Dammit!" ...and I believe I'll end with the Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special ... though you'll have to watch that one over on YouTube for no good reason.

Hey hey, bye bye, weekend This weekend was taken up with helping one son out with a project, some food shopping, cooking, some email, reading and a big, last minute push to get some Legends items accomplished. I also had to change a tire, which cost me some time when I was heading out this afternoon and discovered it -- plenty of rust on those threads, and the spare mounted on the underside of the van did not want to come down -- and will cost me some cash tomorrow, as I don't want to be riding around on a donut with no spare for any longer than necessary. Definitely packing lunch for Monday. Monday's dinner is already assembled, as the components of a beef stew are in the crock pot and have already begun to cook -- well, there's a block of icy beef in the center now, so it's thawing, too -- and by 3 or 4 am it should smell very nice in here. A little extra effort tonight and I don't have to worry about making dinner tomorrow. While trying not to count the chi...

There's a half-naked man with wings and a mace! Today's Heroclix sneak peek is Hawkman. Seth posted a set of designer's notes for him. Since as of this writing they hadn't uploaded the official image I decided to make a dial comparison graphic so one can look at the REV in a glance. Just click on the image to bring it up to a good viewing size. All three versions have the as yet unseen Shadow Thief as his arch enemy, btw. Well, those waiting for a worthy Hawkman now appear to have one, though I'm sure there's always room for complaint. Undoubtedly there will be some annoyance at the point cost, and that some will want versions more easily fit on a team, and that they'll want a JSA version closer to the point cost of the JLA one -- which could easily turn out to be the LE. Some will find the vet in particular to be too powerful, with a 4 Damage and Super Strength allowing him to potentially do up to 7 clicks of damage. This is a Hawkman who's capable...
