What can
the super doggy do?

Wizkids has shown us a(n overexposed -- hey, maybe a background other than white would have been wise?) shot of Krypto -- the mail-away LE for clix brick buyers of February's Collateral Damage expansion.

A potentially useful, reasonably representative 100 pt dial, it could see some play. I suspect it might disappoint a hardcore, Silver Age fan who'd probably be looking for something a little faster, but by and large it seems adequate.

Update: I see they've added the first of the Collateral Damage Feat cards, the 15 pt. Inspiring Command. This is another card that promotes theme team building, though it does depend upon the set designers to get the team affiliations right. That is to say, it specifies "team symbol", so a wildard shouldn't be able to take advantage of it even if there's a legitimate (story-based) reason for a particular character to be part of the team. That it allows the mechanics to work by having the characters avoid pushing damage either by being adjacent at the start or the end of the action does make this much more useful than those cards that demand adjacency.

I think I'll like collateral damage even if I'm not a big dc fan. Krypto looks good, but I'm scared of the bricks after what happened in armor wars.

The bricks need fixing, definitely, and I'm not terribly encouraged by Wizkids continuing to pretend publicly that it was a non-issue other than to take that terribly late in the game move to rememdy the situation by allowing a "one-time" exeption so that people could buy 12 loose boosters at one time and allow that to consititute a brick.

Trickier still is the impact the increased number of uniques has had on the upper level REV clix. Vets in particular of Iron Man, War Machine, Captain America, and Ultron, and to a lesser extent (due to relative popularity) Titanium Man, Executioner, Crimson Dynamo and Dazzler are proving difficult for the average clix fan to find. This could be more of a problem with Collateral Damage, since very few characters in this set are supposed to be remakes. In Armor Wars many weren't particularly concerned with getting Captain America or Ultron because earlier versions are doing a good enough job.

All this reminds me that I still haven't sent away for my Anthony Stark LE yet!

I haven't played Clix in months, but this new figure is sparking my interest. Krypto, the SuperDog. Genius.

Buying a brick doesn't bother me much. I'm generally going to buy at least 12 boosters of an expansion at a local shop, anyway, just to feed my jones. I'll definitely get the CD brick; I really want me a Krypto click, even if I cannot for the life of me figure out why the frick he gets a click of Psychic Blast at the end of his dial. Supercanine Howl of Defeat? Whatever...

I keep meaning to update my blog and mention that I've picked up 6 more boosters since my birthday brick, and added the House of M Wolverine (sigh) and Sentry (heavier sigh) to my Uniques for the set. No Crystal yet. On the flip side, I got a couple of rookie Executioners with the MOE TA, which I'd actually wanted more than the Vet I got, and both rookie and experienced Banshees.

No Captain America's yet, drat it.

I'm looking forward to CD, too, although I'm also looking forward to next year, when DC will apparently be shifting back to a Silver Age emphasis in a lot of their characters, and presumably WizKids will reflect that in their sculpt choices. I can't wait to gloat right in the faces of all those annoying Modern Age dweebs at HCRealms. Hal Jordan haters... grrrrr...

Brad: It'll be a nice addition. It's yet another item to note that once upon a time Wizkids declared they'd never make -- Galactus being the other one I recall.

H: The problem with the bricks, though, is that while the balance within a case was generally good, the bricks were wildly different. Some people were pulling 12 boosters with no uniques and nothing above the level of Experienced - and mostly Rookies - in the top spot of their boosters. I'll likely do the same with CD that I did with AW - buy a brick at the best discounted retail price I can and get a case online.

Grant just played in a sealed booster event Wednesday night, pulled a Black King and traded it for a Crystal. Trades to get uniques seem easy enough, it's those upper tier experienced and vets that remain the killers. What he's really after are upper levels of Executioner.

I'm looking forward to seeing the correlation between the Collateral Damage set and the Crisis Revisited DC universe, too.
