(Today: A rejection and a revision for two comics movies, and a look ahead at the guns of the campaign trail)

Moore says to hell with Hellblazer movie

( Pre-emptive Update: Neil Gaiman has debunked the motivation stated in the story below. In short, Alan Moore has signed his share over to his co-creators, but this was done for other reasons of principle, not in any specific reaction to this project, as he's not looked at any of the movie material. *** The overlooked citation turns out to have been something from ain't it cool. *** I want to point out that Shane himself updated me on all this, as one can see in the comments below the piece. *** I'm trying to establish a policy of not simply expunging or rewriting posted material, so I've left the following intact. Besides, it includes links of interest to those curious about the film.)

Although he didn't cite his sources, Shane's posted on his blog today that Alan Moore, upon reviewing the script and casting of the upcoming movie Constantine (slated for a September 17th release) has decided to wash his hands of the project. To drive the point home, he's reported relinquished his share of the royalties, splitting the money between his co-creators, the artists Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch... though I don't know that Veitch has that co-creator status. He may have meant John Totleben, who is listed among the credits.

Based upon the 1994 "Dangerous Habits" arc by then- Hellblazer writer Garth Ennis. Fans were already groaning when Keanu Reeves was cast in the title role, a blond, chain-smoking, hardbitten, british magician (and sometimes detective, though it's an informal affair), so you can look down the list and see all of the objections.

Here's a page with plenty of links to follow if you're looking for more behind the scenes information, interviews and photos. I'll update this piece as new info arises over the next day or two.
