This one (thanks to Dave Lartigue for pointing it out) needs no caption.
I wonder if Jimmy used the "rub my magic totem and make a wish" line often?

Heh. Yeah, I have that full story in color, no less, in the Supergirl ARCHIVES edition SuperGirlfriend got for me a few weeks back. I hadn't realized that a version of Supergirl (most likely a test balloon on the part of Weisinger, to see how the concept would be received) had appeared, a product of magic and Jimmy's imagination, well before Kara's own much reprinted first appearance. It's a goofy story, and the magical Supergirl's appearance isn't quite what we'd expect (minor variations in costume, but more importantly, Al Plastino doing the pencils, I believe, instead of Jim Mooney), but I was delighted to discover it's existence... and yeah, I saw the double entendre, too. Mid era Superman family stories are so chock full of this stuff you almost have to assume that whoever was writing these things was having some salacious fun at the expense of their ignorant preteen audience... and those dirty old men really let the slyly libidinous references loose when Supergirl made the scene.
Right. There are some odd bits with Superman seeming to almost hit on her, citing laws prohibiting the marriage of cousins. I know that somewhere in my net searches I came across a collection of panels showing several characters - mostly older men who should have been in more paternal roles - being almost suggestive with her.

Wasn't Dick Sprang one of the Superman/Batman bullpen of artists at the time? It might've been him.
Anyway, Jimmy's initials say enough.
Oh- don't forget the "golden rain."

Maybe they'll bring the original, magical Supergirl back. It seems to be the time to do that at DC.
Actually, this story, the magical, prototypical Supergirl is a little more devious than her later counter part. I don't remember exactly what she was setting out to do in the story, but I think it was something about hooking up Superman or something.

L: Jimmy rubb-- wished her into existence as a "constant companion" for Superman after Supes told Lois he'd need a super woman to keep up with him. No word on need for rollerskates.
...still trying to find that early Superboy comic where a Supergirl showed up.
Good thing we've already solved world peace and hunger.
At eBay! Just a note that Tony Collett has a an assortment of toys, action figures, comics and games coming down to their final minutes on ebay . (Sorry for forgetting to note this earlier, Tony. It seemed as if they'd just gone up and here we are near the end.) Also, Mike Leuszler's ebay store has an interesting mix of games, comics, prints, etc. I'll finally be putting some more items (probably only clix) up within the next day or two. Last week's power outage threw my schedule far off, and there were some complications due to me selling something large for someone else.
Bids & Pieces
Email from eBay this morning informs me of price increases that will be going into effect starting midnight, February 18th. They currently hit sellers up for 5.25% of the closing value on items that sell between $.01 and $25, plus 3.75% for the portion between $25.01 and $1,000. The new rate will be a hefty jump to 8% on that base amount and a near doubling of the next level to 5%. There are other changes, but that’s the core set of changes I’m concerned with.
This may be the extra fire I needed under me to get that long-overdue new round of auctions up and running soon. Heroclix items will be the focus, but I might also put up comics for the first time in several years, and perhaps some other things. Making the selections, doing some set-up between now and the 21st, and running a wall of auctions starting either that night or on the 22nd -- that's the loose plan. Updates and general self-promotion will increase as the kick-off date approaches and ...
Spider-man 3 succumbing to Batman/Superman syndrome? While I've yet to see this confirmed, FreezeDriedMovies is announcing three villains in for the next movie. We knew that James Franco, playing Harry Osborne, was going to be following in his father's footsteps and would be on the vengeance trail against Peter Parker/Spider-man. Moreover, given the personalities and the father/son dynamic in play most of us suspected Harry would change his father's costume and become Hobgoblin rather than try to become his father; his lack of self esteem, if nothing else, would have prevented that. Now we find out that Topher ( That 70s Show ) Grace is reportedly bulking up to be Venom, and Thomas Haden Church is set to be Sandman, both to debut in Spider-man 3 . I suppose I should say some versions of the characters, as odds are one or both will end up being catspaws that Harry's used Oscorp's facilities to bankroll. It's the tidiest way to cram three villains - two of who...
