Speak out on the Gonzales confirmation

Another fine and justly lengthy piece by Thom Hartmann on the suspension of Constitutional law, and how President Bush has been laying claim to a power not granted him by the Constitution. If legal protections afforded to people are to be set aside in the name of special circumstances, and, further, those circumstances are as vaguely defined as the "war on terror," then we're all in danger whether we see it or not.

The first step is wrapping one's mind around the reality that the United States of America has concentration camps where people are held without charges against them simply because they've been redefined in to an artificial category ("enemy combatant") where due process either under the U.S. Constitution or the Geneva Convention is no longer due them, and that they could be held there for the rest of their lives. This is all before we even consider what may be happening to some of them while they're there.
