By Wednesday We'll Be Making
Our Own Gravy

Maybe where you are you're already in the thick of it, but our peak heat days are coming up Tuesday and Wednesday, when our local temperatures will take us to and past the 100 degrees mark. Add the humidity and we're expecting heat indices up to 110 by Wednesday.

Hopefully we won't have any power problems.

Stay cool where you can, folks.

(Yeah, I know the folks of that alternate Earth seen in the cover up top are holding together surprisingly well given the temps.)

Whoa. Those alternate Earth folk have a melting point higher than fire hydrants and concrete.

Is it really a consolation to set a new record temperature?

Right. Another sign that this must be an alternate Earth is that this was 1971, and over here at least some of those people would have been wearing polyester, which would have been a molten mess...

Hyperbolic covers like this are fun even just for that. Maybe some technical innovation over there made wax a major building material?

So long as I can stay inside with the AC - and the power holds - I'm hoping to mostly ride through these records purely as an observer.

I work in the city, and I am NOT looking forward to the mile walk from the station to my office and back again on Tuesday & Wednesday, when the predicted temps are 100 & 102, respectively. I don't want to even THINK about how hot the sidewalks will be.

While there's shuttles, there's still about 2 blocks of walking involved, not to mention waiting in the sun for the bus. Soooo...a-walkin' I will go.

I plan to have a water bottle with me, and dear God, I pray that the air conditioning on the train isn't out (as it was in one car this morning).

I don't envy you the passage. It sounds as if a change of clothes will be in order, wearing something light, loose and casual for the travelling to and from and changing into office attire once you arrive.

No sense applying make-up til you get there either.

Oh, and maybe one of those hats with the little fans built in would help, too.

Yeah, that last may have been going too far...;)

Pretty horrible heat/humidity around here right now, too. In fact, we're looking for the hot and nasty to last for the rest of the week. Saturday is the first day we're expecting relief.

May all of your a/c's hold out!! Popsicles anyone?

I kinda like the fan-in-hat bit, S... as long as it doesn't try eating your hair.

Yep, it's the kind of weather that kindles the fear behind the Good Humor man's eyes.
