For the conspiratorially-minded, a look back... and a look ahead?

Over at What Really Happened? today is a mention of some significant US naval "exercises," including a look back at a similar exercise conveniently run in September 2001.

I might have passed on even noting all this, were it not that I found it all to be news to me, and it's all part of a zeitgeist that's making me edgy.

I can't help but consider all the recent terror warnings, including the abusive-of-the-facts mentions of the terrorist bombing and recent election in Spain (dimwits and those who prey on the same continue to allege that this was the Spanish people caving in to terrorists, when it was, in fact, them having the strength of conviction to stick to their plans to vote against an unjust war by voting out the government that forced their nation into it), all of which is looking more and more like an attempt to win Bush the presidential election (in itself something novel for him) via a rally of the blindest of brands of patriotism.

Harvey Wasserman, leaning a shade or two to the dramatic, captures the essence of these fears here, btw.
