Say What?
Your Linguistic Profile::
40% General American English
40% Yankee
10% Dixie
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern

Okay, I don't usually go for these quick, online quizzes, but when I saw this one on Mark's blog I decided to take a look.

I'm guessing the Yankee/Dixie split is the weight of my upper middle class Pennsylvania-raised mother over the relatively early but still important influence of my rural Kentucky-raised father. I'd be interested in filling out a more comprehensive questionnaire since each of the questions in this one were given such huge weights. I'm taking "Yankee" to be influences meant to be closer to proper English, as it's the only one on the list of stats that appears closest.

Well, while I'm at it I may as well include this other one:
You Belong in 1969

If you scored...

1950 - 1959: You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

1960 - 1969: You are a free spirit with a huge heart. Love, peace, and happiness rule - oh, and drugs too.

1970 - 1979: Bold and brash, you take life by the horns. Whether you're partying or protesting, you give it your all!

1980 - 1989: Wild, over the top, and just a little bit cheesy. You're colorful at night - and successful during the day.

1990 - 1999: With you anything goes! You're grunge one day, ghetto fabulous the next. It's all good!

...in my estimation an inferior questionnaire even by the loose standards of these 20-question affairs... yet, I must admit that 1969 sounds like a great choice to me.

Surprising results. I'm 10% Dixie... you all. 0% Midwestern from Ohio.
We both appear to be Spam: 5% unidentified.

I agree that the questionnaires sucked; at least one key phrase missing from each question.

See you in 1969.

Yeah, the Dixie part threw me, too. Presumably if the questions are equally weighted we each gave two "Dixie" answers... whichever ones those were.

I had 10% Dixie, too and I KNOW I've got more of a drawl than either of you. Well, I don't think so...but I'm told I do.
